The Pelagian Master Suite |
Be aware that in the videos provided here you will not see the brand spanking new and absolutely gorgeous interior. We are working on that and ask that you instead consider the photos and reach out to us with your questions and requests.
Our Wakatobi Concierges can answer your questions and help you design the dive holiday of your dreams!
LUXURY ACCOMMODATIONS AND SERVICES
Managed
and operated by Wakatobi Dive Resort, Pelagian offers the same high
standards of guest services as our land-based operations - but in a more
intimate setting. With a maximum of 10 guests, this 115-foot yacht
provides more comforts than any other dive live-aboard. Spacious outdoor
decks, multiple lounges and dining spaces allow you to choose the level
of social interaction or privacy you desire. Our pre-dive area provides ample space for donning and doffing equipment and camera care. Combine this with our passion for delivering outstanding guest
services , and you'll think you're on your own private yacht! What could be better than experiencing one of the most incredible marine life regions of the world in such a setting?
|
Choose
a cabin to meet your preferences-- from standard through master suite
accommodations. All cabins include private bathrooms and individual
temperature controls. Now you can experience the outer reaches. . . Pelagian cruises through the islands of Tomia, Kaledupa, Binongko, Hoga, Wanci and Buton - offering both reefs and muck diving in one cruise. While some of the coral gardens may not be fully as pristine as those near Wakatobi Dive Resort they will offer you very varied topography and varied vistas. Add to that mesmerizing muck diving (not reefs but sandy - mucky if you wish - substrata covered with stunning critters in every conceivable color). Whether you like towering pinnacles, steep walls, coral gardens, drift dives, caverns, or caves, the islands in the Wakatobi region offer them all. While Pelagian's cruising route is dependent on seasonal and dive conditions, our skilled staff develop itineraries based on guests' diving and marine-life preferences. Here it's all about helping you create the dive holiday of your dreams! Something for both returning and new Wakatobi guests! |
If you're a first-time visitor to Wakatobi, why not experience the best of land-based and live-aboard diving, all in one vacation? Book a minimum of five days at the resort and then expand your adventure aboard Pelagian for a few days - or vice versa.
These combo dive adventures offer new guests a way to sample the extraordinary marine life diversity of the Indo-Pacific in total comfort. Our knowledgeable marketing representatives or Wakatobi Concierges can help you with your combo booking.
If you've dived sites around Wakatobi Dive Resort before, you'll definitely want to expand your dive adventures to the reef systems beyond the island of Tomia. New marine life discoveries lay waiting for you and your camera. Exotic and rare marine life can be found on all dives but if you love muck diving sites like Cheeky Beach and Asphalt Pier are sure to create excitement. If you like sheer cliffs and caves, Tanjung Baturtoro offers something for both wide-angle and macro photographers. But these are only a few of the many and varied sites you'll visit with Pelagian. Why not book the Pelagian for a small group of your friends and explore Wakatobi's outer reaches together?
THE YACHT
The
Pelagian was built at the Batservice Verft A/S Shipyard in Mandal,
Norway, as a elegant world-ranging motor yacht. Over the years she has
been rebuilt, upgraded and improved many times, most recently at the
start of 2009 when she received hundreds of thousands of dollars in
improvements. Her construction was to Lloyd's +100A1 yacht and +LMC classification, and she was stoutly built to travel the world's oceans in comfort and safety. Pelagian cruises at 9 knots and she has a range of over 8,000 nautical miles! |
On
board water-makers and over 20 tons of fresh water in the tanks mean
that we don't need to worry about having an extra shower or rinsing our
cameras one more time! Measuring
35 meters (115 feet) overall in length, her beam is 7.5 meters (24
feet) and her draft is 3.4 meters (11 feet). At 245 metric tons, she has
the size and heft to provide us with a secure base for our exploration
of the aquatic world.
Pelagian is air-conditioned throughout and offers en-suite accommodation (private bathrooms) in five cabins, ranging from the Standard Cabins up to the Master Suite.
Comfort In and Out of the Water
The Pelagian's two custom-made 18ft rigid hull inflatable (RIB) dive tenders are equipped with double 60HP outboard engines, tank racks and secure stainless steel ladders (no need to enter the boat like a stranded seal:). These tenders are comfortable and very easy to enter and exit. Diving is mainly done off the tenders as they allow divers to go directly to the dive sites more accurately than the main ship.
Tanks are quickly filled using whips from the Pelagian so there's no need to take the gear off the tenders until the end of the cruise. Our friendly, camera-aware crew is always ready to lend a hand.

THE DIVING
Life
aboard Wakatobi's Dive Yacht, Pelagian, is a mixture of the best divers
can experience in the diving world: 5-star accommodations and amenities
floating above the world's best most prolific marine environment. The
yacht has been masterfully designed for diving safety, comfort, and
convenience. Spacious dive-ready decks are complimented with ample
seating, tables, dive briefing and equipment storage areas. Built in Norway as a 35 meter (115 feet) world-ranging motor yacht, Pelagian provides a secure and stable base for dive exploration. |
|
She cruises at 9 knots and has a range of over 8,000 nautical miles! Yet, unlike most dive live-aboards, Wakatobi limits yacht occupancy to ten guest divers per cruise. This ensures maximum comfort and the highest standards of service for each and every diver!
The Wakatobi dive yacht cruises through the islands of Binongko, Hoga, Wangi Wangi, and Buton - offer exciting and varied dive environments. The cruise route is flexible to divers' marine life preferences, but is generally designed to offer guests an incredible sampling of wall, pinnacle, coral garden, drift, cavern, cave and muck diving! And since the Pelagian is a exploration dive platform, experiencing the best dive conditions is just a matter of moving the yacht!
Experience the Outer Reaches
|
Two,
custom-designed, 18-foot, rigid-hull inflatable (RHIB) dive tenders
with double 60 HP outboard engines whisk divers off to dive sites in
comfort. The inflatables are designed for diver safety, comfort and
convenience with stainless steel ladders to make it easy to get back
onboard. Diving is exclusively done from the tenders allowing the crew to drop divers at the best entry points based on diving conditions. It also facilitates fast and efficient diver pick-up at the end of the dive. This eliminates the need for divers to find their way back to the Pelagian post-dive. |
Best
of all, Pelagian crew fills tanks using whips from the main ship so
there is no need to take dive gear off the tenders until the end of the
cruise! The crew is also trained to provide 5-star camera treatment at
all times - helping divers with dive entry and exit.
|
All dives aboard Pelagian begin with an expert dive briefing. Instructor-level and very experienced dive guides offer dive planning advice to ensure each diver has the best time possible. Each dive site briefing includes an overview of site topography, dive conditions, types of marine life found on the site, areas of particular interest, and safety reminders. These briefings are not meant to restrict diver freedom, but to help ensure all divers experience "the best" on each dive. Dive guides are focused on helping divers find specific marine life on their "wish list." |
Due
to the diversity of marine environments explored, divers have ample
opportunity to check off many of the rare and unique fish and
invertebrate species they'd like to encounter!
Sharing your discoveries
Sharing your discoveries
Back
on Pelagian, the Wakatobi staff is waiting to serve guests post-dive
needs. After an exciting underwater exploration, top-side living doesn't
get much better than (hot) fresh water showers right on the dive deck,
staff standing ready to serve each diver his/her favorite beverage and
freshly-prepared snacks. Of course, the many decks and lounge areas
provide ample opportunity for divers to relax, sun themselves, compare
notes and review UW images. The Wakatobi staff is committed to
understanding your personal preferences needs and delivering exceptional
service! |
The
Indonesian archipelago is blessed to be in the epicenter of marine life
diversity in the world. No other place in the world has the colors, the
corals and the creatures in such variety and vast numbers. The Pelagian live-aboard is the perfect compliment to the wonders below. The two regions that the Pelagian will cruise both offer exciting and different diving possibilities. For the macro photographer and for those who appreciate pristine, unexplored, undisturbed reefs, the Wakatobi region is the perfect match. |
|
|
On the cruise, you'll see an incredible variety of hard and soft corals, fish and invertebrates of the healthy reefs in the Wakatobi region. There are literally hundreds of world class dive sites - many still unexplored.
Pelagian "Muck" Diving
It
seems that when people talk reefs and diving or corals and marine life
in general the word Wakatobi often come up. And by right, the reefs in
the area are truly splendid. And when spending time in Wakatobi Resort
and on Pelagian Yacht we'll make sure that you get to see as much of
that as is possible. However, there's another aspect to a Pelagian
cruise that has not yet been written about much. And that is the
world-class muck diving. Muck diving is a fairly "young" term in the diving world referring to the exploration (and enjoyment) of areas where the focus is not on reefs but on the weird and plentiful critters that live in the often barren landscape of sand, pebbles and silt. Although from an initial look the area looks barren and abandoned, it's far from it. And while the predominant color of the background varies from gray to brown muck diving is far from colorless. It's just that the color is provided by the brightly clad animals that frequent this odd realm. See everything from Mandarin Fish, Mimic Octopus, twin-spot Lion fish, Mantis Shrimp and a myriad of Eels to Tube Anemones guarded by groups of vividly orange-dressed shrimp and huge fire Urchins that sometimes have parasitic, yet beautiful, Coleman Shrimp on them. Do your best to avoid putting your hand on one of the many Puffers, Box Fish, Flounders, Nudibranchs, Hermit Crabs and so many more denizens of the not so deep (most of the muck diving is done in shallow water). A kind of diving that is very different from drifting along a reef, yet that is oh so rewarding and mesmerizing. Also, the dive sites that Pelagian visits are different from those accessed by the day boats from Wakatobi Dive Resort. Yes, she operates in the same general area but as this region is very large there's ample space for her to cruise out to access entirely different sites. There are remote walls and pinnacles, overhangs and caverns. Even pelagic rich mounts rising straight out of the ocean depths. And, some of the diving you'll be doing is on the world's largest atoll called Karang Kaledupa. |
Komodo Diving Area
Occasionally
we schedule specialty cruises in Komodo National Park. For those
wanting to see large pelagic, sweeping currents, and and incredible
array of marine life of all sizes, the Komodo Islands cruises are your
match. The cool, nutrient-rich waters that flow around the islands feed a
seemingly unending variety of creatures. Expect to see sharks, manta
rays, schooling jacks and an unmatched variety of small critters, soft
soft coral, gorgonians, and sea fans. |

DIVE SITES
The Pelagian cruises the outer reefs and surrounding atolls of the Wakatobi Archipelago.
Below are descriptions of some of the many dive sites visited by the Pelagian. Each cruise is different because seasons, weather conditions, currents, visibility, water temperatures all determine what dive areas and dive sites we visit. We also vary the type of dive sites based on the experience level of the diving group and interest in specific types of marine life. It's all very flexible to allow for the best possible cruise for each group.

We also accept both VISA and MasterCard for payments but due to Indonesian banking regulations we can only deduct Indonesian Rupiah and you may therefore experience a slight currency exchange loss. For this reason, we recommend international wire transfers as the best way to settle your invoice. |
|
If
you would still prefer to settle by credit card, please request a
credit card authorization form from us, and we will send you the
paperwork to complete authorizing us to charge your card. For the
convenience of our guests, our prices are set in US Dollars. For our
guests who wish to settle their resort bill in US Dollar cash, guests
pay the price as per their invoice. For guests who wish to pay in Rupiah
(either on Credit Card or in Cash) we need to convert the USD figure on
your invoice into Rupiah, and this will be the figure that you agree to
settle. The credit card payment system is like this: We issue a credit
card authorisation form that converts the Dollar invoice into Rupiah at
the rate we get from our bank on that day. (Our Indonesian bank sets its
rates to favour the Indonesian Rupiah).
We email you the form, and you sign and return it to us, (by fax or email), agreeing to pay the rupiah figure, not the dollar figure. (We can only process in Rupiah, as all credit cards come through Indonesia, and have to be in the national currency).
A day or so later when we receive the form, we will process the payment. By this time, the rupiah rate we used will out of date when we process the payment as the rupiah to dollar exchange tends to fluctuate day by day. Thus we may more or less than we should take (if we are still comparing the figure to the original dollar invoice).
Next the information is transmitted to your card issuer. Your card issuer will process the payment. Generally this happens within 48 hours, but this can take up to a week, and during this period, the exchange rate will have wobbled some more. Your card company will then convert the rupiah rate back to dollars so that it can appear on your credit card statement in a currency that makes sense to you. However the exchange rate here will be one that favours the dollar.
Due to the numerous currency conversions, the time lapse, the differences between rates used, at every step of the way, you and I stand to lose out, (rest assured that our bank managers will smile even more broadly).
By signing the credit card authorization form, our guests agree to pay the Rupiah figure on the form, and the US Dollar figure that they were billed is no longer relevant in the transaction, but can be used as a guide as to approximately how much they pay. Should there be a disparity (and there will be, but it can be either to your loss or to your benefit) we cannot enter into any debate about overpayment.
We offer a service to our guests by accepting credit cards. That service comes with a cost to us and a risk to the guests due to the fluctuation of the international exchange rate mechanism. Guests are entitled to settle in cash by international bank transfer, to avoid that risk, but some choose to pay by credit card and accept any disparity.
